Message of a Medium - Insight Interview, Pt 3

Hello again, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week and are enjoying a great weekend! I want to say "Thank you" to everyone who has emailed and commented on my blog here. It's nice to know that we are not alone in the world and can share these experiences. Let me know if there are other points to being a psychic medium or paranormal living (that you might be experiencing yourself and are wondering about), and I will do my best to answer them.

This is the third and final excerpt from my interview with Carol Geiler's INSIGHT intuitive focus group from May. The subject matter for this section is about turning on and off the psychic signal, personal protection, and some first steps to consider if one is interested in connecting with the Other Side. Enjoy!

Are there any other suggestions? Some people are developing and integrating … Things about protection, grounding, and turning it off.

For developing, like I said, just practice, practice, practice. That’s the only way you can do it. Write down your list of successes. One of the things we always love to do in our life is focus on what went wrong. What was bad. You need to flip that the other way. That’s the only way you will be able to improve, is to focus on what went good and what went right. Make that your focus; that’s the only way you will be able to build.

To shut if off … Okay. For me, I really don’t have this problem.

Your problem is turning it on?

Yeah, I more or less have to turn it on. I have no problem shutting it off.

Some people do.

Yeah. I think that’s because …. I have this sort of egotistical point of view that says “I am part and parcel of the Universe. The Universe exists through me, therefore I have access to the entire cosmos, so when it comes to my reality, my life, my word is God.” And so …

You take control.

I take control. So when I’m done, I say “Okay, I’m done. I’m shut off.” And that’s the intent that I go out there with. Does it work 24 hours a day? No. Sometimes I’ll be walking around and I’ll get hit upside the head and go “What’s this?” But, I’m not one of these people who walks around claiming to be bombarded all the time and can’t get any sleep. I sleep like a baby! And the way to do that, you just have to believe you have that ability. Give yourself that permission. Give yourself that power. You can shut it off. Everything is a part of the Universe, which means you are also a part of the Universe, which means there is nothing that has anymore power or anything greater than your own Self, because it’s all really one big gigantic organism anyway. The other thing, though, if you are having trouble shutting it off, is just find some way to distract yourself. Watch something humorous on TV. If I need to be distracted, I’ll throw in Family Guy. You know, something that completely takes your mind off of it. You will close it down naturally.

Protection. Pretty much like I said. Learn discernment. Learn your place in the Universe. This is something to … I don’t think I’ve heard anybody say this, but this is sort of my own point of view. It’s come up with other psychics that I’ve read. As long as you are authentic and are honest and open, and you are “doing the work of spirit” you will always be protected. I’ve been doing this for 11 years, I can’t count how many “dead people” I’ve probably communicated with, but I’m pretty sure, based on the healing that maybe has happened or the people I’ve talked to, if I ever needed protection all I would need to do is ask “Can somebody who I have communicated with over the past 11 years come in and just give me a hand?” I guarantee somebody would show up. If you have communicated with people anytime in your life from the Other Side, all you have to do is just be aware, if it was a good communication, they will probably be there to help you if you needed it.

Just like asking your friends here.

Exactly. Exactly. The other thing, too, for protection, if you are interested in being a medium and communicating with people’s relatives, I think the first thing you need to do, though, is to have a relationship with your guardian angels, your spirit guides, whatever you want to call them. Do that first, because they are your first line of protection. Number one, at least for me in my experience, they were the ones that taught me how to do this. They were my teachers. But they will also buck from you negative stuff as well. You can always call on them for help. I’ve done that on ghost investigations, where I have a very negative energy spirit trying to give me psychic hate-mail, as I call it. All I have to do is ask one of my big guys. I say “Okay, big guys, help me out here.”

And does that work for you?

Oh, yeah.

So, it’s pretty much taking control again.

Yes, it’s taking control again.

So, last, how does what you do empower others?

First and foremost, I think it helps heal people. Like I say, it’s always about the client. If somebody is coming to you, it’s because they feel that they have something that needs answered. In some cases, they feel lost, sometimes they feel broken, sometimes they feel like they’re bleeding. If any information that comes through can help them through the healing process, that’s what you’re there for. The caveat to that is, again, be authentic. Don’t make things up. Don’t tell them what you think they want to hear. You’ve got to be completely honest. One of the things I do is, I may get nothing for you. And there have been people who come to me, expecting, or whatever the case may be, hoping for something, and I will get nothing. I’m not going to sit there and lie to them and tell them what I think they want to hear. I tell them “Sorry, I’m not getting anything.”

The other thing, too … I think one of the main goals in my life is to hopefully inspire people to the notion that there’s more to life than meets the eye. I want people to start looking at themselves for the incredible fountainhead of creation that they are. And start to acknowledge their own divinity that has basically been ripped away from them. I really want people to become aware of their Magical Souls. There are qualities to consciousness that are far beyond what you see, hear, and feel. And if I can somehow inspire people to maybe ask those questions of themselves and start them down that road to discovering just how magnificent and eternal and immortal they are, then I’ve really accomplished something on my journey here.

Well said. Are you ready for a demo?

No, but we'll do it anyway!

(Incidentally, the first guest from the audience came forward, and it seemed I wasn't picking anything up from her. Instead, I kept getting the name "Edward." I turned to the audience, suspecting it was a relative for somebody else. Sure enough, an audience member's relative with the middle name "Edward" came through and started giving validated information).

Message of a Medium - Insight Interview, Pt 2

Hello again, everyone! Continuing from last week's blog, here is Part 2 of my interview with Carol Geiler regarding my experiences as a medium, specifically honing the psychic signal and developing abilities. Next week will be the final excerpt before moving on to other topics. Eventually I will come back and post a transcript of the "questions from the audience" section from this event. Hopefully I have been able to give people a glimpse of what I have gone through in this paranormal journey and what the nature of being a psychic can be about. Enjoy!

On learning to hone skills …

One of the things you need to learn how to do is to discern what your energy is versus something else. I mean, you sit with yourself all day and you think you know yourself, but you really don’t until you sit down with yourself and really go inside and ask “How do I feel?” Really sit with that and imagine, if you had to describe yourself in terms of a color, what would that color be? If you had to describe yourself in terms of a sound, what would that sound be? So once you’ve got that down, when you go out to read another person, you’ll have a pretty good idea what your Self “feeling” is as opposed to the person you are reading because you need to be able to try and separate the two. It can be a little difficult, but you do need to be aware of that.

Then the big one, the big one of all for honing skills … The support groups are great. I never had a support group doing it … So, those of you who do come to the support groups, you have a much better benefit than what I had.

The other thing is expectations … on both the psychic’s part and the person you’re reading. There should be no expectations, because expectations narrow the energy field. Think about a time when you expected an outcome, how narrow your mind was. You just become like a laser beam. The thing about psychic work is that it needs to be as wide open as possible. The psychic has to be able to have access to the energy to get any kind of information, and if it’s really small, it gets really difficult. And like I say, it’s also has to be the psychic’s job to not have any expectations. Now I speak from experience … As a psychic standing up there and having expectations, you will always fall short. You will always walk away going “You know what, that really sucked.”

… When you have expectations you are basically stunting your own self from being able to be open to everything that’s available. Some people will come to me and just want to hear from a deceased relative, and if that’s my expectation, well, there may be other information there, like stuff that’s coming down the road in their future that does not come from anyone who is deceased -- it’s just buried in the person’s energy field. It may be important for them to know what that is. But if I don’t have myself open to that, they could miss it. And it’s always about the client. It’s always about the person you’re reading, it’s never about you, because they are coming with their issues, and they’re looking for some kind of guidance and some kind of answer. Your goal is to hopefully find something to help them in finding that answer.

My tips for honing: Practice, practice, practice. Really, that’s it. You just got to keep practicing. And you will get scared. You will always be nervous before you start a reading. Like I said, I’ve been doing this for 11 years, and it’s only been until about the last 8 months that my fear level before doing a reading has greatly diminished. Up until that point, certainly the first 5 or 6 years before I even started doing group readings, before every personal reading, I was terrified. “Am I going to get anything? Am I going to flop?” You just have to stick with it. Fortunately, I think my curiosity won out over my fear.

Describe what communication is like for you. A lot of people come to the group wondering … There’s a lot of different ways of receiving energy and information.

Well, I’m not one of the lucky ones that gets things clairaudiently, where I hear it. Very rarely … I very rarely hear anything. A lot of what I get first starts with a feeling somewhere in my body. And then that feeling will usually generate an image. And then it becomes my job to interpret the image. That’s really it. For dates, I will get a calendar, and the calendar will light up wherever on the calendar to mention certain things.

… If you’re developing as a psychic you will probably end up generating your own library of symbols. The cool thing is, some of those symbols will come to you kind of randomly on their own (but) you can also direct them. You can sit down and come up with your own symbols. I’ve done this. I’ve created a symbol and said “This symbol, when I see it, means this.” And you just make that an intention to whatever is out there. I started doing that in November last year. I did a reading for someone and I saw a good three of the new symbols that I myself had created and they were smack right on.

You have to pay close attention to the energy and its magnetics. When I say magnetics, for me, it’s … Is there pull? Is there essence? Is there weight to it? That will always be the one to go to … I could go on a rant on that, but I won’t. The other thing is to pay attention to what is flashing in your mind. A lot of times, psychic information comes like that (snapping fingers). It’s like standing in a dark room and somebody’s taking a picture. You know how quickly a camera flash is on and off, that’s how quickly sometimes the information comes. You have to be an observer to your thoughts, as opposed to a person who is just thinking. You have to sit there and be observant. And pay attention when something flashes. Ask yourself “Is this something that is in my normal thought-flow.” If it’s not, that’s your big hint that you’re probably getting something psychic.

Do your pictures look like photographs or are they more like … cartoons?

It just depends. Sometimes they’ll be still-photographs. Sometimes they’ll be moving. It just depends. You have to learn to distract your left brain. That will be your biggest challenge.

Unless you’re naturally a right-brainer.

Unless you’re naturally a right-brainer. There’s one medium, I forget his name, but he will actually sit and scribble (on a pad) and that’s because he’s distracting his left brain so the information can come through his right brain. For me, my eyes go buggy.

Definitely, learn to meditate because you have to be relaxed in order to receive. If you are jumbled, frustrated, upset, you’re going to block it. It’s all about energy, and if your energy is a jumble, you’re going to have a hard time discerning what is coming at you.

What’s the one piece of advice that you would give to those people interested in connecting with those on the Other Side?

Actually, this is the history lesson. Understand that it’s not communication like you and I have on a daily basis, where it’s words that you can pick up and hear and it’s all crystal clear. It’s not that way. It’s actually very difficult for them to get information across to us here.

They (meaning psychical researchers) actually know this historically from the earlier 1900’s with the Society for Psychical Research. These were honest scientists that studied mediums at the time. And the interesting thing was, a lot of these scientists were in the late time of their lives, and they died while the mediums were still young. So they started coming back through the mediums to the other researchers that were still alive. They described how hard it was to communicate through the mediums.

Basically, what it is, and I was told this all growing up using the Ouija board (but I never understood it), they perceive those people that have the ability to receive information as being like light. They see everybody as lit up, but those that seem to be able to get information appear to be a little “brighter,” for some reason. The trick that they have to go through is that they need to impress within the light whatever messages that they are trying to give. It gets pretty random and chaotic.

I actually highlighted a few passages here (from printouts) … Richard Hodgson studied the most famous medium in history named Leonora Piper. This woman makes John Edward and James Van Praagh look like children. She was able to give full names, full dates, events that people had gone through throughout their lives. She didn’t know any of the sitters. They were very stringent of how they investigated this woman, to the point of calling everybody that came to visit her “these are the Smiths.” They even had private investigators following her around to make sure she wasn’t gleaming information. She was very well kept under wraps. And this woman, like I said, was just phenomenal. So anyway, Richard Hodgson studied her for 13 years and then he died. Well, he knew who to go to on the Other Side when he wanted to get back in touch with his friends. It actually took him a week. One of the first things he did, 5 days after being able to finally get through, he explained that it was extremely difficult for him to communicate because he had to learn … as he put it “impress the mechanism” which would’ve been Leonora Piper’s body.

Basically, one of the other SPR members, Frederick William Henry Myers, who we all have to credit – he was the one that actually came up with the term telepathy – came through … He was the initiator of what they called the Cross Correspondences. This is probably the best evidential stuff showing life after death. There were 3 mediums – actually there was more, like 4 or 5 – living thousands of miles apart, across the ocean, getting information from Myers that corroborated one another. In fact, one of the investigators that was with Leonora Piper instructed Myers to sign a couple of these correspondences with a circle and a triangle. The trick was, he told it to the spirit of Myers through Leonora Piper in Latin. Leonora Piper didn’t know Latin. So obviously this was a really good test, because Myers did know Latin. And sure enough, a week later, two mediums claiming to have Myers drew a circle and a triangle at the end of their correspondence. Now, Myers, in one of his transmissions said, “It’s like standing behind a pane of frosted glass, yelling at a sometimes reluctant secretary.” (Laughter from the audience). That’s how hard it is to get information.

So a piece of advice is understanding communication is garbled.

Yes. And so one of the things I struggled with for years until I started reading some of this stuff …

Why I’m not always accurate or not getting --?

Yeah. Why is it not coming through more? Why am I not getting more information? This, that, and the other. That’s one of the other downfalls, too, is that you will always want more information. The fact of the matter is, it really doesn’t require much at all. One of the group readings I did last month, there was a guy who was looking to hear from his dad. All I had to say was “he mentions the hat.” The guy almost busted out weeping because he had given his father a hat that he ended up wearing until the day he died, and he was buried with that hat. So all he needed to hear was the hat.

When did Leonora Piper live?

Leonora Piper started her mediumship work in the 1880’s. I believe she passed in the ‘50s. She is considered the most researched medium in history. Now, she didn’t do medium work like what you see today, where John Edward and James Van Praagh, and me, are standing up here … She was the new kind of medium at the time, which was the trance medium. She would literally go into a sleep, and she would do it two different ways – in terms of getting information. She had what they called “control spirits.” These spirits would come through, take over her body and start relaying messages. She would also have the deceased sometimes come through and deliver messages. When she wasn’t doing the control spirit, she was doing automatic writing. The way this developed was, she actually fell down like this (slumping over), threw her hand up, somebody put a pencil in her hand and she started writing. They had experiments going where they had one family over here (with the automatic writing hand), and she would be channeling over here (on the left, with verbal communication), carrying on two conversations with two different families talking with two different groups of dead people. (The verbal communication people) would get information (through the verbal spirit), and the hand would get information for … People would talk to the hand, literally, and the hand would write the answers out. A lot of the information from Richard Hodgson, who was the investigator who studied her, was done through automatic writing.

Should make you feel pretty normal in comparison. Imagine the fear she had to deal with!

Actually, she didn’t know. For years, she said “I don’t necessarily believe I’m talking to dead people.” But since she was always out (in a trance), she had no idea what she was doing.

She just rolled with it.

She just rolled with it.

Message of a Medium - Insight Interview, Pt 1

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be posting the transcript of my interview with Carol Geiler and her INSIGHT intuitive focus group that I did back on May 25. Carol and her audience asked some really great questions about what it's like being a psychic medium and how I got started. For those of you who know me, this might answer some questions you've always wondered, but never asked. For those who haven't been exposed to this side of me, well ... I guess here's your chance :).

This first part deals with how I discovered this ability and started working with it. Next week, I will get into the questions regarding the nature of how I receive information and other things I did to further development. Enjoy!

- How did your gifts unfold?

When I was very young, I already had some kind of sense that the world was magical and mystical. It really came to a head when I was three-years-old when my family lived in a haunted house. Events were really traumatic. In one case, my sister had the hot water handle from the bathtub blow off on her; she was pushed down the stairs. We had a dog get pushed down the stairs and go blind. My brother and I recount many times going up the stairs and having a little gnome at the top of the steps telling us to stay out of our sister’s bedroom. I actually had something charge me one night in my bedroom, and as a result, I actually slept with the covers over my head until I was 15. I was completely afraid of the dark. I was completely afraid of ghosts and goblins. And now I’m a ghost hunter (laughter from the audience). It’s come full circle.

But because of those incidents, though, always being lodged in my mind, it was an anchor, more or less, to the reality that there is more to everyday life than what we experience. Coupled with that negative stimulation I also have memories of positive things. At that young of age (3 years) up until about 5 years old, I had past life recall; I had communication with what people would call spirit guides that I could see at that time. I can’t see them anymore like that. So, one of the benefits coming out of that negative experience was also the lodging in my memory of the good.

Also, my parents moved every two to three years, so you never could get comfortable – we were always being uprooted. And so in a way, that made me become somewhat of an introvert. I had to go inward for my own stability (or at least remain lodged in myself), and I think that might have contributed to my being aware of how my body was always feeling and what was going on inside of me. And in my teens, as every teenager goes through, you never feel like you fit in. The way I dealt with that was, I would go to bed every night listening to music. One night, I had reached some kind of catatonic state. At the time, it was cassette tape – we didn’t have CD’s back then – so the tape flipped off and I had to turn the tape over. So, in order to do that, I had to open my eyes. At that moment I saw 7 glowing beings around my bed, and I know how that makes me sound – it makes me sound like a total weirdo. Immediately, my mind shot back to my childhood experience of being charged in the old haunted house. I put the covers over my head for a week. But then I realized, “You know what, if they wanted to do something, they’ve had 5 days now to do it. I need to see what this is about.” So, after some trepidation and nervousness, I repeated the experiment. I put the headphones on, made sure I relaxed into the music, and got into that state. And then I opened my eyes and there they were again. Basically, that was the start, really, of my development. Probably for a good year or so after that, on a nightly basis, I was being schooled, groomed, whatever you want to call it, about ideas regarding the nature of reality, stuff like that.

From there, I actually did something – my whole family … got into it – which is something most people try and stay away from. We got on the Ouija board. That’s when the medium abilities started, because I was able to finish the sentences and paragraphs that were coming before they even spelled them out on the board. I even got into some trance channeling, but that was way too taboo for me.

Then of course, as you grow up, you got to go out and live that normal life. You have to get married and have the white picket fence. So, I left all that behind. (But) eventually it got to a point that it seemed whatever I was doing I was hitting a brick wall, until one day I finally threw up my arms and said “What am I suppose to be doing?” It was around that time that my mother called me up and said “You need to turn on the sci-fi channel and watch this guy John Edward.” So I turned it on … Now I had seen James Van Praagh on television before and thought “That’s really intriguing.” It didn’t really grab me …

How old were you at this point?

That was in the year 2000; I would’ve been 20, 30 years old.

But watching John Edward and seeing the impact he was making, the healing he was … giving to people ... I remembered my ability to communicate with my spirit guides, so I said “You know, I bet I might be able to do something like this, too, and maybe this is what they are telling me to do instead of hitting these brick walls.” That’s basically how it started.

Which parts of it were difficult for you to embrace?

I actually … Upon doing the first couple readings and discovering that, yes, something was happening … I guess the knowledge that it was possible (to be a psychic and a medium) was easy to embrace. What was difficult to embrace was the realization that, “OK, I know I’m going to be considered the odd man out now.”

It was the emotional part?

Yes. I mean, who wants to be seen as the odd man out, the freak, or even the fraud, or worse yet, mentally unstable. Nobody wants to be perceived as that. Even to this day, I feel like I’m leading a double life. I have my regular day job, I go to work, I get up in the morning. I don’t talk about this at work or anything like that. And then I come and do this kind of stuff ... (laughter from the audience) … where I’m staring off into space, and I know my eyes do this funky little dance, and things just start coming through …

Are you working on that integration?

Yes, I am working on that integration. I’m very cautious about it, because I am aware of the stigmatism that can come with it. Fortunately – now I’ve been doing this for about 11 years now – I haven’t really had any negative experiences. I haven’t had somebody come up and say I’m a Satan worshipper or some crazy thing like that. I guess that’s because I’m really cautious about it. I’m not out there grand-standing it or anything like that. Quite honestly, when things go good, when information is coming through, whether it’s with a client or when I’m on a ghost investigation ... With the ghost stuff, (the society) doesn’t tell the psychics anything about the environment, where the haunting is occurring and what (the haunting type phenomenon) is or the place’s history … So when I’m getting stuff and they can validate it, and when stuff is going good, the positives far outweigh any of the negative stigmatism that you can get.

What types of things did you have to overcome in order to hone your skills?

Actually there was a lot. First and foremost, and there is even some of that going on right now, is Fear (laughter from the audience). I mean, you get up and get in front of people, even if it’s just one person, and it’s natural to sit and go “Well, how am I going to look? Am I going to appear a freak or fraud?” You get self-conscious. But the fact of the matter is, after doing this for so long, when it comes time to sit down and do the reading, it has nothing to do with me. It has everything to do with what energy is there, and what the energy has to say to the person I am reading. At that point, you (acting in the role of the medium) are just a conduit. You are a tool, basically, to be used to facilitate a message; it has nothing to do with you. And realize, really, that you are out of the equation, except for the fact that you are doing it … Your presence is there.

The other thing I had to let go of, and I really didn’t do this until about December last year after I finally gave myself an adequate answer … was to let go of the left-brain analytical stuff. Your mind is always going “How does this work? What is the modus operandi?” I will tell you from experience, that kind of questioning ends up leading to self-doubt. And that will stunt you, because you are always trying to figure yourself out. Every successful reading you give, you end up before the very next one, saying to yourself “Well, maybe that was just a fluke. Maybe that really didn’t happen, because I don’t understand how I got the information.” So you discount it.

How did you learn to turn that off?

Actually that was very simple. I got a sheet of paper out and listed 60 just off the top my head memories of things that were way too abstract to discount. First one on my list, I just wrote the name “Ben.” This is the perfect example. I was at some friends’ house, where I was getting ready to do a small little group reading. This is before the reading got started. I was just sitting there and my friend walks across the room and the name “Ben” floats across my mind. So I asked, “Who’s Ben?” She said “Well, my dad had a best friend named Ben.” I asked “Has he passed?” She said “I don’t know.” So we just left it at that. She called me three days later and says “So I checked up on Ben. He died last week.” How do you discount that?

The second one on my list is Snoopy; the dog Snoopy. I was giving a reading … Somebody was hosting me for a private reading. The host gets up and walks by me. All of a sudden I get this image of Snoopy in my head and I say “Okay, I need to bring up Snoopy, but I think it’s for you.” And we just left it at that. Reading comes and goes. She gets a phone call, she picks up the phone and her jaw drops to the floor. I’m thinking “Okay, what’s this about?” She hangs up and says “That was my ex-husband. He used to build parts for the space shuttle. He wants his Snoopy pin back.” (It was a small pin with Snoopy wearing a cosmonaut helmet). So …

So you turned off your left-brain by counting your blessings?

Yeah. I made a list of about 60 occurrences where I got people’s names correct, where I got conditions correct, all the correct ones that just came to mind. I made this list and I read that list daily. Daily. To basically inform my consciousness that, yes, you are doing this. And I actually did come up with a good left-brain explanation about how I was getting the information.

The other thing to overcome to hone your skills … You have to go out and do it. Just sitting at home thinking about it isn’t going to do it. You actually have to go out there, bite the bullet, read strangers, the whole works. Now, you can prep for that – there are really good ways to prep for that. One of the best ways to do that is business cards. If you have a friend that is willing to do this with you, have them go around and gather up business cards of people they might know that you don’t. This is one of things I had a friend do for me for awhile. She would come in with business cards of acquaintances and business people she knew. She would just hand me this business card …

So you need an accomplice!

You need an accomplice! So … she would give me these business cards and I wouldn’t even look at the name, I would just hold the card. Whatever would come out, you know… And then validate and validate … But, you know, it’s practice.

Psychic Damage Control

My original intent for this week’s entry was to be part 1 from a transcript of my interview with Carol Geiler and her INSIGHT intuitive focus group regarding my history and work as a medium. However, on Tuesday I was scheduled to do a 1-on-1 sitting, and based on what came out of that experience, I feel it is much more important to talk about that and get to the interview transcript next time.

My client, Debra, has given me permission to discuss her situation, as it is important for people to be aware of what can sometimes happen in this field. She came to me not necessarily to hear from a deceased relative, but as things unfolded it became clear she came to me because of a reading she’d had from another psychic a few months ago in California. He not only left a bad taste in her mouth, but potentially traumatized.

To start off, when Debra sat down for the reading with this other psychic, everything he mentioned about her life was incorrect. He told her that she had had a rough life, was a dancer, etc. etc. He gave some very specific things that were totally wrong and off-base. Then he took it further … and mentioned she would die in her 70’s while asleep (I think she said 73). Now, hold onto your hat, because here’s the really bad part (if you didn’t think it was bad enough already): When she tried to protest, he stared deep into her eyes and said “I know all and I see all.” In other words, he gave her the psychic middle finger and said “my word is law.”

Naturally, this was very upsetting to Debra. It kept her from sleeping for a few nights after the event, and to this day has left her feeling unsettled. She told me that some of the stuff he told her incorrectly about her life did fit the lives a few relatives, and was concerned that maybe he did have some psychic ability, and hence, his prediction of death might be true.

As she was telling me this, all I could think was “This is the danger of egotistical psychics – or people who think they’re psychic.” Here was somebody who was only interested in bulldozing his way into someone else’s psyche and making a buck doing it, and couldn’t handle being told he was wrong. He obviously lacked any compassion for his client, breaking a cardinal rule of doing a job that is meant to be a service. In addition, if he had any real psychic ability, he obviously was a novice in knowing how to read, interpret, and work within the nature of that signal – and thus all that was wrong with his statements.

As I state to everyone who comes to my group readings, no psychic is ever 100% accurate, and if you find somebody who claims they are – run, they’re completely full of sh --! Here’s the perfect example of one … and it really did a doozy on my client.

That this guy was unable to take the criticism that he was wrong shows just how inauthentic he is as a professional intuitive. Anybody who has been doing this seriously will tell you, the psychic signal is a mystery. There are times when readings go great – the flow of energy is spectacular, meanings are well received and transmitted. Other times, it’s not so good; the energy doesn’t have a lot of substance and it’s like pulling teeth – and it’s the job of the psychic to fulfill the objective of the sitter to the best of his/her ability and tell them if it’s not going good. This is why I start a private sitting with just 5 minutes of me doing my thing and getting “yes” or “no” answers from the client, so we can both be confident that the energy is in place and the psychic signal is strong before continuing. (Incidentally, this reading went just that way – the energy wasn’t “in my face” enough, so the stuff I did get just wasn’t hitting hard enough, so I called the reading to a close and didn’t charge her for seeing me. It was at this point she revealed the incident with the bad psychic).

Although his impressions about Debra’s life were completely off-base, his prediction of her death still had an impact. It’s important for people to know that this type of information – somebody’s death – is not going to come from a psychic that has any integrity and worth. First off, there are so many different life paths that Debra could take between now and 73 years old, there would be no way he could see with any clarity or definitiveness such an event. Secondly, no psychic should ever leave a sitter feeling worse-off when she leaves than when she sat down. Now, I ask you: How you would feel if a psychic told you how you were going to die? Sorry, but that just blows all ethics out the water.

Debra was also concerned because, as I had mentioned, some things he said did fit other members of her family. She wondered if maybe he still had some worth as a psychic, and therefore should she take any credence with anything else he said?

“Absolutely not,” was my response. Since he was unable to see that his impressions did not apply to her (a “miss rate” of 90+%) nor acknowledge that fact when she tried to protest, just went to show how inexperienced and ignorant he was as a professional. Yes, he might have picked up on things about her relatives, but that he was unable to understand and piece together via the nature of the signal, and his unwillingness to accept his fault, or recognize that he may potentially be missing the “real info” within the psychic information, revealed his lack of credentials and abilities. That being the case, his prediction of her death had no basis of worth.

Now, I fully admit I am not 100% accurate and would be more than willing to entertain a mis-appropriation of an impression, but that I would miss all my impressions at 90% (okay, here’s my ego in this), is usually not the case. The energy, if it’s there, WILL tell you, and if it’s not, then as a professional and honest psychic, you cannot say how accurate you are. This is exactly opposite of what this guy did. And it kept Debra from sleeping at night.

Remember, any professional authentic psychic should follow the three rules I tell everyone who comes to see me:

1. Don’t tell me anything I don’t need to know. It’s the psychic’s job to tell you – “Yes” or “No” are the only answers the psychic should need, simply to validate whether or not he or she is truly connecting and working within the psychic signal. There should be no fishing for information, and by all means – the client should not feed the psychic anything.

2. If something doesn’t fit, don’t try and make it fit. It’s your life. And you know yourself better than any psychic ever could. Your gut will tell you whether or not if any of the impressions or predictions could ring true. Honestly, it doesn’t help the psychic to grow and develop if people immediately latch onto his words, when his impressions may be completely invalid. Things need to unfold naturally, for if the psychic’s prediction is true, it’s based on that reality and not one they’ve implanted. The second part of this, obviously, is not making the prediction fit if it really doesn’t fit to begin with. You’ll end up wasting a lot of your precious time and gain a major headache to boot! Again, let things unfold naturally. Predictions are based on the energy of the client at the time of the reading, and if that energy doesn’t change and if the prediction is accurate, things will unfold precisely as they would have had the client never seen the psychic in the first place.

3. The psychic can always be wrong. Sorry, but true. We simply don’t know enough about how the psychic signal works, plus we’re dealing with (I suspect) quantum processes that can easily be jumbled by the simple changing of observation, either from the psychic or the client. I believe the standard rule of thumb is a genuine psychic will have a “hit rate” of 85% or better, meaning that at least 15% of the time, he or she could be off. The nature of psychic impression is quite spontaneous and not something one can label as “predictable,” in terms of quantity and quality of content – quite ironic, isn’t it? Still, when one considers that professional basketball players and baseball sluggers actually miss more hits than the one’s they are famous for … It’s still a remarkable percentage validating that something special is occurring.

However, in Debra’s case, she unfortunately didn’t know these rules – and what’s worse, neither did her “psychic.”

Oh, and Rule 4 – which actually happened when Debra left my place – she felt much better than when she came in. A reading, if done well, will empower you, not throw you down in the dumps.

Remember these rules. Next time before you sit down for a reading with any psychic, ask them – Can they ever be wrong? It’s a valid question. If someone claims to “know all and see all,” stand up and walk away. You’ll sleep better for it..
